The Chevrolet Silverado and its identical twin, the GMC Sierra are full-size pickup trucks manufactured by General Motors and introduced in 1998 as the successor to the long-running Chevrolet C/K line.
2014 Chevrolet Silverado is the first offspring of the third generation of GM’s full-size pickups and was awarded the title of 2014 North American Truck Of The Year.
2014 Chevrolet Silverado review
It comes in seven different trims: 1WT, 2WT, LT, LT Z71, LTZ, LTZ Z71 and High Country, all with 6-speed 6L80 automatic transmission as 2WD (rear) or 4WD. Three different engines start new Silverado and those are: 4.3L EcoTec3 V6 with 285 hp and 305 lb-ft of torque, 5.3L EcoTec3 V8 with 355 hp and 383 lb-ft of torque and 6.2L EcoTec3 V8 engine that develops 420 hp and 460 lb-ft of torque.
2014 Silverado comes with five body styles: Crew Cab – Short Box, Crew Cab – Std. Box, Double Cab – Std. Box, Regular Cab – Std. Box and Regular Cab – Long Box.
4.3L engine lets Silverado go 18/24 mpg in 2WD and 17/22 mpg in 4WD. 5.3L engine consumes a bit more and goes 16/23 mpg as 2WD and 16/22 mpg in 4WD. Needles to say that 6.2L engine uses even more gas which makes Silverado pretty high fuel consuming vehicle.

2014 Chevrolet Silverado Redesign
As it goes with next-gen, new Silverado’s exterior got completely redesigned. New inlaid doors, an integrated spoiler in the tailgate and dual power-dome hood maximize its aerodynamics and fuel efficiency. Moreover, newly designed powerfull grille with hexagonal grid simply dominates the front end. The new Silverado’s cargo bed is one of the most inovative on the market and includes smart features that let you customize the way you secure cargo.
Interior is also remodeled and is now more spacious (especially in the second row) and more luxurious. Silverado’s seats are made of stain-resistant high-wear vinyl, cloth or leather appointments. Steering wheel has integrated controls that allow many things without the need to remove one’s hands of it. You can find many more features including bluetooth, USB, MyLink system, 4.2-inch and 8-inch diagonal color touch-screen etc. 2015 Silverado got highest marks in safety and has two new features: StabiliTrack that helps a vehicle respond more accurately and predictably to steering intentions and Trailer Sway Control that works with StabiliTrak to provide the driver with additional assistance when towing a trailer. There are also Forward Collision Alert, Lane Departure Warning, ABS etc. In addition, new Silverado is probably the most silent full-size pickup on the market.
How much is the new Silverado?
Prices go from $25,575 for a stock 1WT 2WD Regular Cab – Std. Box to $49,180 for a stock High Country 4WD Crew Cab – Std. Box which makes it a very expensive investment.
Even though it is expensive and high fuel-consuming, 2014 Chevrolet Silverado is probably the best vehicle of its class. Whether it is a best-buy also is a different matter entirely.
