2014 Chevrolet Volt is a US market plug-in hybrid electric vehicle, also sold in Australia and New Zealand as Holden Volt, Vauxhall Ampera in Great Britain and as the Opel Ampera in the rest of Europe. This 5-door hatchback eco vehicle is synonimous with fuel economy.
It uses electric motor with a peak output of 111 kW (149 hp) delivering 273 lb-ft of torque and 16.5-kWh Lithium-ion battery with rechargeable energy storage system. When it runs „out of juice“, 1.4L I4 engine delivering 84 hp with electronic fuel injection powers the generator that extends Volt’s range. The car comes as a FWD.
Meet the Chevy Volt 2014
It has a sharp and futuristic, though simple look as many Hybrids do. Recognisable Chevy grille witl long headlights dominates the front, while nice looking taillights are refreshing and give life to somewhat awkward looking and very high back end. From the profile, it looks as sharp as a knife with those long headlights and taillights coming at the sides in perfect line with the windows.
Volt is a bit more stylish on the inside. The standard cloth upholstery can be replaced by leather, complete with suede inserts, in a number of different colors. The front seats are surrounded with a classic Chevy twin-cockpit design with the large center display screen. Back seats have cupholders between them which is neat but eliminates any chance for the fifth seat.2014 Chevrolet Volt comes with many gadgets, maybe one or two to many, considering it is a plug-in hybrid and has to conserve energy. There are features like: keyless access, passive unlock and lock on all doors and liftgate, remote vehicle starter system, audio interface, USB port, 7″ diagonal LCD touch screen display etc. Safety features include StabiliTrak which is stability control system with brake assist, eight air bags, theft-deterrent system, anti-theft alarm with immobilizer etc.
With combination of electric and internal combustion engine that give life to the battery and with a 120-volt portable charge cord, Chevy Volt can go as far as 900 miles without fillups or 370 miles on one charge (38 miles of electric range). With that in mind, fuel efficiency looks like this: 101 mpg in a city and 93 mpg ona a highway which is more than impressive.
2014 Chevrolet Volt price
Price starts from $34,185 and can be lowered to $26,685, but, has to be said, as a Federal incentive only on tax return. Still, it is $5,000 cheaper than a last year model because there are more and more plig-in Hybrids by day.
2014 Chevrolet Volt is highly recommendable car, mostly because of its sublime fuel efficiency and a fair price that can be expected to go down even more by the day.
