Chevrolet SS was first introduced in 2014 in the North American car market, however, a year before it was introduced in Australia as Holden Commodore. Even though Holden has already announced that they are going to stop with the production of the Commodore very soon, the American manufacturer has remained silent and has just recently introduced a 2016 Chevrolet SS. The SS has a large fan base in the United States and it has over the years become very popular, which is probably the main reason why the American manufacturer keeps it in production.
The 2016 Chevrolet SS brings some changes and practically all of them are on the outside. The American manufacturer wanted to differentiate the new SS and its predecessor. There are no too many changes, however, making the 2016 Chevrolet SS more of a redesigned version and not an all-new model. The SS has newly designed front with new grille, lower functional air ducts, new LED lighting and functional hood vents. Along with that, the 2016 Chevrolet SS comes with dual mode exhaust, new Slipstream blue color and completely new 19-inch alloy wheels.
The SS has newly designed front with new grille, lower functional air ducts, new LED lighting and functional hood vents. Along with that, the 2016 Chevrolet SS comes with dual mode exhaust, new Slipstream blue color and completely new 19-inch alloy wheels. The rest of the car is practically the same – it has the same chrome details, chrome door handles and SS branding in the front.
Chevrolet claims that all these changes are not implemented to make the 2016 Chevrolet SS look better, they also improve aerodynamics and cooling of the engine and the brakes. The interesting thing is that, even though some of the other Chevrolet models were updated with a brand-new styling of the taillights, the new SS has the same that were used on its predecessor.
Interior of 2016 Chevrolet SS
When you step inside, you immediately see an interior that is beautifully design, but it seems familiar – that is because most of the specific details of the interior were borrowed from other Chevrolet models. One of the most interesting details is the multifunctional leather steering wheel that has a flat bottom, just like those in racing cars. The interior is completely black, with lots of chrome accents used throughout the whole interior. The layout and the design of the dashboard is the same, even the chrome accents are the same. The new 2016 Chevrolet SS will come with the same touch screen display that comes with Chevrolet MyLink preinstalled. There were some rumors of a new trim level that could offer high quality leather seats and lots of new features, but the manufacturer did not announce anything like that.
The 2016 Chevrolet SS will be offered with the same engine as its predecessor – the 6.2l V8 that produces 415 horsepower and 425 lb-ft of torque. Thanks to the new dual mode exhaust, the new SS will be more quiet at lower speeds, while it can be really loud at high RPMs. The 2016 Chevrolet SS will be offered with both manual and automatic transmission.
The price of the base version starts at around $45,000.
